WOONSOCKET, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2001--CVS/pharmacy (NYSE: CVS),
America's largest pharmacy, announced today that it will launch a loyalty
program in all of its 4,100+ stores on February 18, 2001.
Customers who choose to participate in the ExtraCare loyalty program will
receive mailers featuring special coupon offers and health information. They
will also receive exclusive cardholder savings on select merchandise, and will
earn "Extra Bucks" for purchases they make during designated shopping periods.
ExtraCare mailings will be targeted to customers with various interests,
including baby care, senior health, women's health and diabetes care.
"The ExtraCare program will help us serve our customers more effectively and
reward loyal CVS customers," said Larry Zigerelli, Executive Vice President of
Marketing at CVS/pharmacy.
"We've tested this program in six markets and customers have responded very
positively. Seventy-five percent of surveyed customers in these test markets
indicated they shop at CVS more often because of ExtraCare," added Zigerelli.
"We're excited to be the first major retail pharmacy in the country to offer a
comprehensive loyalty program chain-wide."
Enrolling in the CVS ExtraCare program is easy. Beginning February 18,
customers can complete an enrollment form at any CVS/pharmacy location.
Customers will then receive a wallet-sized ExtraCare Card free of charge. To
receive ExtraCare's savings and promotions, customers simply present their card
when they make a purchase at CVS.
ExtraCare is an "opt-in" loyalty program. Customers will only receive
targeted mailings if they register for them on the enrollment form. ExtraCare
customers who do not opt-in for the mailer will still receive savings, Extra
Bucks and other in-store promotions.
