CVS/pharmacy September Same Store Sales Increase 5.0%

WOONSOCKET, R.I., Oct 04, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE: CVS) today announced that same store sales (sales from retail pharmacy stores open more than one year) in its CVS/pharmacy division for the five weeks ended September 29, 2007 increased 5.0% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 4.3%, and were negatively impacted by approximately 550 basis points due to recent generic introductions. Front-end same store sales increased 6.8%.

For the third quarter, same store sales at CVS/pharmacy for the thirteen weeks ended September 29, 2007, increased 5.0% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 4.3%, while front-end same store sales increased 6.5%.

Same store sales at CVS/pharmacy for the thirty-nine week period increased 6.0% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 5.8%, while front-end same store sales increased 6.3%.

During the five week period ended September 29, 2007, CVS/pharmacy opened 17 new stores, closed 3 stores and relocated 13 others. As of September 29, 2007, the Company operated 6,206 CVS/pharmacy stores in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
