Physician Engagement

The prescription that doesn’t get filled is typically invisible, hidden in a pocket or purse, forgotten on a kitchen counter, unseen by prescriber and plan. Proactive pharmacy care engages prescribers and helps to make the invisible visible.

Until recently, physicians have not had a reliable method to track whether a prescription was filled. iScribe, our industry-leading ePrescribing system, transmits prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of the consumer’s choice. If the drug doesn’t get picked up within 60 days, the prescriber receives an alert at the next appointment when the patient’s history is accessed—right in time for a face-to-face conversation between doctor and patient. It provides the prescribing physician with valuable information at the perfect time for an effective intervention. Physician and patient can discuss the importance of adherence and any challenges or concerns the patient may have.

iScribe is just one of the ways CVS Caremark engages prescribing physicians to help improve adherence, address gaps in care and optimize prescription use for better health outcomes—helping plans meet their goals.
